Today the United Nations is presenting a High-level Commemorative Event commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. The event is entitled “Srebrenica: Remembering and Honoring the Victims of the Genocide”
This high level United Nations event will reflect upon the genocide in Srebrenica, and remember and honor its victims once again. In advance of the main commemorative event, which will be held in Potocari, Bosnia and Herzegovina on July 11th, today’s event is an opportunity to reflect on the experiences that led to the genocide as well as to honor the lives of the victims and their memory.
Confirmed speakers include H.E. Mr. Sam Kahamba Kutesa, President of the UN General Assembly and H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General, among others, with a video message from Mr. Muhamed Durakovic, Srebrenica resident and survivor of the “March of Death”, the video “Srebrenica” by Tarik Samarah and a musical performance by Bosnian composer and media artist Svjetlana Bukvich with special guest violinist Patti Kilroy.
IFFAMPAC representatives have been invited to this event, and will attend to represent the families of the missing.
